چکیده

The performance of linear acoustic echo cancelers degrades if nonnegligible nonlinear distortion is introduced into the echo path as, e.g., caused by low-cost loudspeaker systems driven at high volume. Adaptive second-order Volterra filters are known to effectively model nonlinear acoustic echo paths. In this contribution we propose an extension of the proportionate NLMS (PNLMS) to second-order Volterra filters. For the case that the amplitude of the input has an even probability density function a simplification of that algorithm is introduced, including an adaptation control which is crucial especially for nonstationary input. Simulation results show that the proposed algorithm leads to an increased convergence speed compared to an NLMS-based adaptive Volterra filter. An important feature of the presented approach is the inherent invariance of the performance of the adaptation with respect to a scaling of the input/output signals.

Adaptive Combination of Second Order Volterra Filters with Nlms and Sign-nlms Algorithms for Nonlinear Acoustic Echo Cancellation

In this paper, starting from a robust statistics (RS) adaptive approach presented in a previous work entitled the combined NLMS-Sign (CNLMS-S) adaptive filter, an automatic combination technique with similar performances is proposed. Thus, in order to obtain better performances in acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) setups than with the normalized least-mean square (NLMS) algorithm, in the CNLMS-S...

Cascade Adaptive Filters and Applications to Acoustic Echo Cancellation

Typical approaches to acoustic echo cancellation (AEC) in mobile telephones employ adaptive linear algorithms, such as the normalized least mean squares (NLMS) algorithm. Smaller, cheaper components on these devices introduce nonlinearities into the echo path, which adversely affect performance of linear AEC systems and necessitate means of nonlinear compensation. Memoryless nonlinear blocks th...

A Functional Link Based Nonlinear Echo Canceller Exploiting Sparsity

The presence of loudspeaker distortions in the echo path affects the performance of a conventional acoustic echo canceller (AEC). In order to address this problem we introduce a novel nonlinear acoustic echo cancellation (NAEC) architecture based on the adaptive combination of linear and nonlinear filters. The nonlinear filtering is performed by a functional link network (FLN) whose task is to ...

A Variable Step-size Proportionate Nlms Algorithm for Echo Cancellation

The proportionate normalized least-mean-square (PNLMS) algorithms were developed in the context of network echo cancellation. They outperform the normalized leastmean-square (NLMS) algorithm only when the echo path is sparse. Unfortunately, realworld network echo path may not be that sparse sometimes, while the acoustic echo paths are usually less sparse. The improved PNLMS (IPNLMS) algorithm i...

Genetic algorithm for Echo cancelling

In this paper, echo cancellation is done using genetic algorithm (GA). The genetic algorithm is implemented by two kinds of crossovers; heuristic and microbial. A new procedure is proposed to estimate the coefficients of adaptive filters used in echo cancellation with combination of the GA with Least-Mean-Square (LMS) method. The results are compared for various values of LMS step size and diff...
